Another highlight of the Moreton Bay cruise with Bernd and Shirley was the walk through the big sand blow on Moreton Island called the Sandhills.

The twenty mile sail over from Scarborough was magical. The sea was flat and the wind very light, but Masala trickled along under full main and genoa. The slow pace saw us arrive on dusk, the chilly conditions more than compensated for by the stunning evening light.

Next morning we took the dinghy ashore onto Moreton Island and began the walk through the trackless dunes to the summit of the Little Sandhill. The waters around the Sandhills teem with fish, turtles, birdlife and Soldier Crabs (right).
