Inskip Point is one of our favourite places in the region. The anchorage is comfortable and the scenery great. There are masses of terns, pelicans and other sea birds. Lovely sand banks perfect for swimming expose at low tide. Then there’s the miles and miles of beach walking… |
Next morning Leanne went fishing from Masala using the prawns as bait. She caught three Whiting (and a bunch of poisonous Toadfish) which we had for lunch. There is nothing better than pan fried Whiting straight out of the sea. |

GARRY’S ANCHORAGE, FRASER ISLAND—ENGULFED BY DUST. |
THURSDAY 17 SEPTEMBER. The forecast of strong N winds followed by a SW change saw us depart Inskip Point. We sailed up the Sandy Straits doing 8 knots on a flat sea, assisted by the tide – sailor’s heaven. We anchored at Garry’s Anchorage on Fraser Island, a much more sheltered spot than Inskip Point, to wait out the storm. |

We have been blessed with ideal weather except that the wind keeps blowing from the north, while we’ve been trying to go north. We are likely to be “stuck” here at Garry’s Anchorage for the foreseeable future as there doesn’t seem to be any letup in the northerly forecast – one of the problems of getting away so late in the season. Can’t find a trade wind anywhere. Everyone else seems to be going south. Never mind. |

The ship’s log for 20 September records: Went for a 4.5 hour walk to the NE on Fraser Island, along old vehicle tracks, looking for Woocoomba Lagoons. Found nothing.
It wasn’t strictly true that we found nothing on the walk, as you can see from the photo at right and over the page. |
