The stunning scenery makes it hard to focus on the route in. But you must, as the swift current can sweep the vessel sideways and onto the breaking sandbanks either side in a flash. Apparently this is not an uncommon occurrence. For us, Leanne’s excellent helming keeps us dead on course, while I check my calculations once again on the depth of water we need to cross the bar, and to remain upright at low tide while anchored.
Don’t think that your brain will turn to jelly on a yacht because there is no exercise for it. The calculations for working out the depth of water over the bar and at the anchorage at low tide are quite involved. |

We stayed at Yellow Patch for six days before moving on to Keppel Bay Marina via Great Keppel Island. The story of our time at Yellow Patch and beyond will have to wait until the next Epistle. |

However, we can’t resist throwing in a few images of Yellow Patch just to whet the appetite. It has become possibly our favourite place on the east coast to date. Enjoy! |

Above: the sand blow dominates the landscape at Yellow Patch. The yachts at anchor to the left of the sand show just how big it is. This shot is taken at high tide. Compare with the scene at left, showing Leanne exploring the sand flats at low tide. |
