COMMODORE’S CORNER...continued |
So what had gone wrong? The ship had come down close to the coast and its lights were confused with the shore. It came outside the area marked on the charts to turn into the channel which put it dangerously close to Masala. I obviously had not noticed the ship even though I thought I was keeping a very good look out. Luckily our radar reflector must be working as the ship would not have been able to see our navigation lights either. We must have appeared on their radar screen. |
So the moral of this story is never assume you are clear of shipping even when outside the designated shipping channel. |
Right: take the Commodore’s advice—when a ship gives you the five blasts, head for the beach! |

THAT’S IT, FOLKS!!! |
