STARLIGHT, STAR BRIGHT

8-9 SEPTEMBER. Platypus Bay is an ideal place from which to sail to Lady Musgrave Island, on the Great Barrier Reef. The passage is about 90 miles so another overnight sail was in order. We set off up Hervey Bay in the morning in light winds and flat sea, gentle sailing at 3-4 knots. We drifted past flocks of Gannets resting on the water. They let us come quite close for photos before opting to depart. It seemed a shame to disturb them but we couldn’t resist a close encounter—they are such majestic birds .
