Birdlife is one feature of the island. We saw many striking Black Noddies sitting in the trees. Although small, these sea birds are consummate fliers in all weather. |

|
The much bigger Brown Booby is graceful and powerful in flight, but on the ground is a laugh as its big floppy webbed feet make it difficult to walk. This bird is also the classic “bird-brain”. They are so dumb that sailors in the early days could walk up to them and hit them on the head with a stick. We once had one try to land on the top of our mast while we were sailing, with the mast gyrating all over the sky. Goodbye VHF radio aerial, if the stupid thing had succeeded. |

The island is clothed in a thick forest of impressive Pisonia trees. 70% of the world’s Pisonia forest is located on the offshore islands in this area. |
