Marble Island is leasehold, mostly cleared, and is used for grazing deer. Yet in the right light it still creates bold and colourful landscapes, and there is always the…marble. Going ashore is not encouraged, yet time spent there was worthwhile simply because the anchorage is so visually stimulating. |

Above: the yacht Avior anchored in front of the dominant outcrop of marble in the entire island chain—a truly spectacular backdrop when seen in the morning light. |

Each day we listened to the weather forecast. We were promised the south-east winds we needed to move to Hunter Island, tomorrow. Then when tomorrow came, they’d been moved to the next day. This donkey and carrot farce continued for three days. Leanne filled in the time by baking some bread – she loves the finished loaf as it looks like a shapely man’s buttocks (voyeurs can see the results on the next page!). |
