What a place Brampton Island is! Most of it is national park. We walked around part of the island circuit track one day, very slowly, and took the track to the summit next day, a little faster. Each walk was followed by a refreshing swim at the deserted resort beach. We were blessed with perfect weather, and the experience did much to restore our battered souls. |

Above: the Brampton Island summit walk is one of the great island walks in the country. Early in the dry season, with the cold winds coming from down south and before the annual burning off begins, the atmosphere can be startlingly clear. This view is over West Bay, with the bold hills of Cape Hillsborough on the mainland clearly visible (top left) over 30 kilometres away. |
