11-19 JULY. Next island on the agenda was Shaw, 23 miles to the north and officially within range of the Whitsunday charter fleet. Although Shaw is a wilderness island with no walking tracks, the scenery is dramatic, with high peaks and superb beaches, and we had always wanted to go there.

Above: Shaw Island at sunset. The island is long and narrow, with numerous peaks and bays with delightful beaches. This shot was taken after a spell of bad weather was just lifting, and shows the yachts that chose to ride out the storm here with us.
