Orpheus is a favourite place with the whales. Sure enough, a mother and calf were nearby, and during the evening we could hear whale song resounding through the hull. Magic! |

We spent one day floating around in the bay looking at the coral. Then repeated the 2008 walk via the old shepherd’s hut ruins to the spectacular cliffs on the eastern side of the island. Curiously, despite the massive amount of rain from Cyclone Yasi, the whole region was much drier than during our last visit, with many plants visibly stressed and the soil baked hard and dusty. |
